In the time since Apple admitted to throttling performance intentionally on older versions of its devices, they had offered a reduced price on a battery replacement for any device starting with the iPhone 6 and up as a solution. Fresh battery, no need to throttle performance. They had initially indicated that this service (which was $79 and will now be $29 through the end of 2018) would be available by the end of January – it’s been reported that you can take advantage of this program effective immediately.
You’ll still have to make an appointment with the Genius Bar and the replacement will take about 3 days, but you’ll have a “freshie” right after that. And for those of you looking to prolong the life of your existing iPhone, this might be a very good and inexpensive way to do that.
You can read the full Apple apology statement here and you can find the Apple support page to start your request for a new battery in your device here. I know I’m going to take advantage of this program for my iPhone 6s – are any of you? Let us know in the comments!
