Today is the day! The newest flagship from OnePlus is here…let’s dive in and get to the details of what this new phone is all about so on the off chance you were looking, you know what to do. Carl Pei dropped a teaser at the beginning – telling us that OnePlus is going to show us not 1 but 2 new products – with the tagline of “The Speed You Need.” Let’s find out what they’ve got for us!
First up, the specs of the OnePlus 6:
|CPU/GPU:||Snapdragon 845/Adreno 630|
|Display:||6.28″ Full Optic Display, with 19:9 aspect ratio|
|Storage:||64GB/128GB/256GB UFS 2.1|
|Front:||16MP with f/2.0 aperture|
|Rear:||16MP & 20MP with f/1.7 aperture, both OIS and EIS on board|
|Color(s):||Mirror Black, Midnight Black, and Silk White (limited edition)|
|Misc:||“Daily splash” water resistance
It will feature Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on the back, and Carl Pei claimed that even though its glass, the OnePlus 6 will be every bit as durable as their previous metal clad phones. It’s camera will also shot in both 4k at 60FPS, as well as 480FPS slow mo for up to 1 minute. You’ll be able to buy the black variant of the phones starting on May 22nd and the white version on June 5th. The 64/6 sku will cost $529, the 128/8 sku will cost $579, and the 256/8 sku will run you $629. You’ll be able to buy direct from OnePlus, or via various other online partners.
The prices have risen over previous years (again) but at a base price of $529, it’s still a pretty competitive value prop for what you’re getting. Now things like customer service, software updates, and long term support are always a concern but if you get into the OnePlus ecosystem, you’re probably aware of that and prepared for it. Some more pics from the event are below.
In addtion, OnePlus is announcing the Bullet Wireless headphones. These are neckbuds people! Wireless headphones….with a wire in-between them.
They will charge off of USB Type C, and you can use any Type C charger to charge them. They claim 5 hours of battery life with just a 10 minute charge (pretty wild) – they will be apt-X capable, and have a magnetic on/off system that will allow you to turn them on, resume playback, or take phone calls when you pull them apart (also pretty wild) – they will cost (just?) $69 and will be available starting June 5th.
